🌱 Practical Growing and Care Guide for the Rlc. Star Parade Volcano Queen

To ensure that your Rlc. Star Parade Volcano Queen grows with maximum vigour and flowers regularly with strong spikes, follow our set of practical growing recommendations.

1. Light and Sun Exposure

The Rlc. Star Parade Volcano Queen needs plenty of light to encourage new growths and ensure the formation of the flower sheath. Grow it in a spot with bright but indirect light, protected by 50% to 60% shade cloth or near south- or east-facing windows. Adequate light will show in firm-textured leaves with a soft lettuce-green colour.

2. Temperature and Air Circulation

This orchid enjoys intermediate to warm temperatures, ideally growing between 20°C and 28°C during the day, with a night-time drop to 15°C to 18°C. This temperature difference between day and night is a key trigger for inducing flowering. Ensure good air circulation around the plant, which prevents excess accumulated moisture and protects the foliage against pests and fungal diseases.

3. Watering and Humidity Management

Like most hybrids in the CATTLEYA lineage, the Rlc. Star Parade Volcano Queen has thick roots and pseudobulbs capable of storing water. Therefore, let the substrate dry out almost completely between waterings. Water generously during the active growing season and reduce the frequency in winter, allowing only the moisture needed to keep the pseudobulbs from dehydrating. Keep the relative humidity between 50% and 70%.

4. Substrate and Repotting

The substrate should offer excellent aeration and very fast drainage. Use perforated plastic pots or clay pots filled with medium to coarse pine bark and a small amount of sphagnum moss on top to retain initial moisture. Repotting should be done when new roots begin to emerge from the base of the new growth or when the substrate shows signs of breaking down.

🧪 Recommended Nutrition and Feeding

To support plant growth and ensure that the Rlc. Star Parade Volcano Queen produces large, intensely coloured flowers, maintain a balanced feeding routine.

During the active growth phase of the foliage and root production, apply Orchid Focus Grow fertiliser weekly or fortnightly at a diluted dose. This fertiliser provides the nitrogen and micronutrients needed for the formation of healthy new pseudobulbs.

Once the pseudobulbs have completed their development and the flower sheath is maturing, switch to Orchid Focus Bloom fertiliser. Its formula, rich in phosphorus and potassium, encourages strong buds to open and intensifies the colours and fragrance of the flowers.

Add the impressive Rlc. Star Parade Volcano Queen to your collection and enjoy a spectacle of tropical colours and scents in your home or greenhouse!
